FoodBridge ("we," "us," or "our") operates the platform at myfoodbridge.org. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our food rescue platform.

By registering or using FoodBridge, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

When you register on FoodBridge, we collect:

  • Organization name and type (food provider or recipient)
  • Contact name and email address (required)
  • Phone number (optional โ€” used only for SMS notifications)
  • Address and zip code (optional โ€” used for listing and map display)
  • Password (stored as a secure hash; never stored in plain text)

We also collect basic usage data (e.g., pages visited, timestamps) to improve platform performance. We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking purposes.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Connect food providers with recipient organizations
  • Send transactional email notifications about food listings, claims, and pickups
  • Send transactional SMS notifications (only if you provide a phone number and opt in during registration)
  • Display food listing locations on the map
  • Improve and maintain the platform

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. SMS Notifications

If you provide a phone number during registration, you consent to receive transactional SMS messages from FoodBridge, including alerts about new food availability, claim confirmations, and pickup updates.

  • SMS notifications are entirely optional โ€” a phone number is not required to use FoodBridge.
  • Message frequency varies based on food listing activity in your area.
  • Standard message and data rates may apply.
  • To opt out at any time, reply STOP to any SMS you receive from us.
  • To get help, reply HELP or visit myfoodbridge.org.

We use Twilio to deliver SMS messages. Your phone number is shared with Twilio solely for this purpose and is not used for any other reason.

5. Email Notifications

We send transactional emails related to your account activity โ€” such as new food listings, claim confirmations, and pickup updates. These emails are sent via Resend. We do not send marketing or promotional emails.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase. We use industry-standard security practices including:

  • Encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit
  • Bcrypt password hashing โ€” your password is never stored in plain text
  • HTTP-only cookies for authentication tokens

While we take reasonable precautions to protect your information, no system is completely secure. Please use a strong, unique password for your account.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you wish to delete your account and associated data, please contact us at privacy@myfoodbridge.org. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

8. Third-Party Services

FoodBridge uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

  • Supabase โ€” database hosting
  • Vercel โ€” application hosting
  • Twilio โ€” SMS delivery
  • Resend โ€” email delivery
  • Leaflet / OpenStreetMap โ€” map display (no personal data shared)

9. Children's Privacy

FoodBridge is intended for use by organizations and adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
